WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Roger Williams University softball team split their third day of competition in the 2023 season, picking up their first win of the campaign on Monday, defeating Minnesota Morris, 6-1, and falling to St. Norbert, 6-2.

In their opener against Minnesota Morris, the Hawks were led by pitcher,
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) who pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out a batter. The Hawks' pitcher also faced 29 batters registering 23 at-bats, with 12 fly outs and 7 ground outs, in her first collegiate victory.

Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) went 3-for-4 for the game, while
Emma MacLean (Newton, Conn.) went a perfect 3-for-3 in the batter's box, with three RBIs on the day.
Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) hit .500 on the day with a 2-for-4 line with an RBI.
Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) also added a pair of hits and an RBI.

After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks struck first in the second off a single by O'Connor that brought MacLean home. After O'Connor reached third, Burr hit a single into right field, bringing home O'Connor. The Hawks added another run In the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by MacLean that drove in
Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.).

In the top of the fifth, the Hawks added a pair of runs with MacLean and O'Connor hitting back-to-back RBI singles. After the Hawks added another run in the seventh, Minn-Morris brought a runner in in the bottom half of the inning, before Germano closed out the complete game with a groundout to short.

Against St. Norbert, the Green Nights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after a single by Allison Ardito brought in a pair of runs in the opening frame. St. Nobert then came in with another run in the top of the third with Paige Diercks adding a run with a RBI single.

The Hawks then added two with
Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.) hitting bringing a run across the plate and Burr following with an RBI single.

St. Norbert added three runs in the in the sixth inning and held off the Hawks for their fourth win of the season.

Roger Williams (1-5, 0-0 CCC) are off for the next few days before facing Knox and Framingham State on Thursday, Mar. 16 beginning at 9 am.
