WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Roger Williams University softball team saw pitcher
Nicole Corey pick up the second win of her collegiate career on Thursday morning, as the Hawks defeated Knox, 9-0, before falling to Framingham State, 2-1.
Against Knox, The Hawks saw Corey pitch 5.0 innings allowing two hits and two walks, facing a total of 18 batters with 16 of those batters registering an at bat.
Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) went 2-for-3 at the dish coming around to score twice, while
Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a walk.
Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.) and
Jax Beauleiu (Sandwich, Mass.) each recorded a hit.
After a walk filled the bases for the Hawks in the bottom of the second the Prairie Fire pitcher, put a ball in the dirt for a wild pitch bringing in the first batter of the game. Burr then singled up the middle clearing the bases in the process.
Later in the inning, after a single and steal by Beaulieu put runners on second and third, another wild pitch brought Fehan home to put Roger Williams up 4-0. The Hawks added three more runs later in the inning, leading 7-0 after two.
In the fourth inning the Hawks added a pair before shutting down Knox in the final frame to complete the shutout.
In game two against Framingham State, the Hawks saw
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) go 5.1 innings in the circle allowing one run and six strikeouts in the loss.
The Rams struck first scoring on in the bottom of the second when Zoe Smyth came across to score the first run of the game. Framingham State scored again in the sixth inning when Gwendolyn Carpenter singled to center field bringing in Olyvia Mendonca.
The Hawks added a run in the seventh when
Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) hit a single to bring in
Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.), but the rams held off the Hawks rally to win.
Roger Williams (2-6, 0-0 CCC) will play their final game of their Spring Break trip on Friday, Mar. 17 beginning at 9 am against Cornell College, the Hawks will then finish their week with a tilt against Beloit at 11:30 am.
