AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to William Paterson on Friday in a non-conference doubleheader, dropping their first game 13-4, before falling 7-1 to the Pioneers.
In their first game of the day against the Pioneers,
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) went two for three from the plate bringing in three, the lone Hawk player with multiple hits in the game.
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.),
Elvin Espinal (Union, N.J.),
Nick Zobian (Califton, N.J.), and
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) each added a hit in the contest.
After Williams Paterson jumped out to an early six run lead, the Hawks added a trio of runs in the bottom of the second inning with Flynn bringing a run home on a single to right. Hibbard followed with a single to right field as the Hawks scored two more to cut the lead down to three.
In the top of the third William Paterson added a run on a double to right center, before Hibbard knocked a single up the middle bringing in Flynn in the fourth.
The Pioneers then added six runs to end the contest, 13-4.
In game two
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) went 3-for-4 at the dish coming across to score once in the matchup.
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.), Espinal and Hibbard each had a pair of hits in the game, while Zobian added an RBI coming off a sacrifice fly.
William Paterson scored three runs in the first off, a homer, before adding three more in thee fourth inning. After a Pioneer came around to score in the sixth, the Hawks ended the shutout in the top of the seventh after Zobian hit a ball to left field, deep enough to bring in Massaro.
Roger Williams (1-8, 0-0 CCC) will face UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Mar. 18 at 9 am to round out their Spring Break trip to Florida.
