BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to Rhode Island College, 5-2, on Tuesday in non-conference action on Paolino Field.
The Hawks saw sophomore
Matt Hynes (Farmingdale, N.Y.), go 5.0 innings, striking out four with three walks, while the Anchormen's bats scored five.
Tommy Tunrback (Brick, N.J.) added 1.1 innings, with
Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) going 2.2 innings pitched, striking out five batters, while grounding out three after facing eight hitters.
At the plate,
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.),
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.)
, Mike Masino (Bayville, N.J.), and
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) each picked up a hit, with Flynn hitting both RBIs for the Hawks off a home run.
RIC struck first in the top of the first with runners on second and third, Cal Parrillo hit a single up the left field line brining in both runners for a 2-0 lead.
After
Nick Zobian (Califon, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second, Flynn crushed a ball over the right field wall, leveling the game for the Hawks.
In the top of the fourth the Anchorman took the lead for good with Cole Podedworny knocking an RBI single down the left field line, sneaking the ball past the third baseman and foul line. Cameron Santerre and Cole Peterson both brought a run across as RIC took a 5-2 lead.
Roger Williams (1-10, 0-0 CCC) will host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Western New England on Saturday, Mar. 25 for a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 12 pm.
