Softball: Hawks Split Doubleheader with Lions

BRISTOL, R.I – The Roger Williams University softball team picked up a win in game one of their non-conference doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene, 2-1, before falling to the Lions, 6-5, in their second game of the day.
 
In their opener, Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) took the circle for the Hawks pitching a complete game for the Hawks, pitching her second complete game of the season, striking out 13 of the 26 batters that she faced.
 
At the plate, Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) coming around to score while adding a hit. Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.), Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) and Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) each added a hit in the matchup.
 
In the opening inning with MacLean on second, Jaime Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) put the ball in play, with the Hawks seeing MacLean come around to score on the play. In the bottom half of the second inning, the Hawks saw Predaris coming around to score after Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.) reached on an error.
 
The two squads were then scoreless, before the Lions put a run on the scoreboard, after a double down the right field run.
 
In the second game of the day, the Hawks turned to Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) who went 5.0 innings with strikeout facing 24 batters.
 
Howell and Predaris both went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and O'Connor and Jess Hassell (Foster, R.I.) went 1-for 3 at the plate, with one RBI each.
 
The Hawks struck first, scoring after Howell hit a double to left field to bring in Wells. The Lions then added two runs in the top half of the third before the Hawks added three runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 4-2 lead.  The Lions added three in the top half of the fift and another in the top of the seventh.
 
The Hawks had an opportunity added one in the seventh when Howell knocked in the runner on third base, but were unable to complete the comeback.
 
Roger Williams (5-10, 0-0 CCC) will take on Anna Maria in a non-conference doubleheader that begins at 12:00 pm on Sunday, Mar. 26, which has been relocated to Salve Regina.
