NEWPORT, R.I.—The Roger Williams women's softball team dominated in the double-header against Anna Maria on Sunday afternoon, downing the Amcats 5-2 in the first game and 6-1 in the second.
In game one,
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched seven innings, facing 29 batters and striking out 10.
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) pitched 6.1 innings in game two, where she faced 28 batters and recorded 13 ground outs.
Taylor Myers (East Haven, Conn.) made an appearance on the mound in the second game, facing one batter and adding two pitches.
At the plate in game one,
Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) batted in three runners.
Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) added two runs, two hits, and one runner batted in.
Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.),
Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.), and MacLean scored one run apiece.
Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) batted in two runners in game two. Howell added two hits and one runner batted in.
In game one Roger Williams took a lead in the bottom of the first. With bases loaded, Wells batted a single to left field, bringing O'Connor in to score. MacLean then hit a triple, batting in two runners before scoring off of a single by Burr. The Hawks finished the inning up, 4-0.
Roger Williams scored another run in the bottom of the fifth where MacLean batted a triple and Wells came in to home.
Anna Maria scored in the top of the sixth on a passed ball. The Amcats then scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
In game two, Roger Williams started off scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.), O'Connor, and
Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) each scored a run. Then, Burr advanced to second and batted in two runners, before a fly ball to right field by
Kasey Ruo (Smithfield, R.I.) allowed
Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) to score a run, propelling the Hawks forward, 6-0.
At the top of the sixth, Anna Maria scored a run, putting the score at 6-1.
Roger Williams (7-10, 0-0 CCC) will be in action on Thursday, March 30 at 3:30 pm when they host UMass Dartmouth. They will then be on the road on Saturday, April 1 at Wentworth for a double-header.
