Baseball: Beavers Battle by Roger Williams in Extra Innings

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to Babson in extra-innings on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the Beavers in 10-innings.

Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) went 8.0 innings while throwing 107 pitches in the contest, for five strikeouts, allowing one earned run on six hits without walking a batter. Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) went 2-for-4 in the game, coming around to score once while knocking in an RBI and drawing a walk. Nick Zobian (Califon, N.J.) went 2-for 3 in the contest with a walk, while Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) brought in two runs off a home run.

After the two teams played to a scoreless draw through the top half of the fifth, Babson broke it open with a double steal attempt. In the sixth inning the Beavers added another run with a fielder's choice bringing in a runner.

The Hawks then responded in the top of the fifth inning with a Massaro single to right field that brought in Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) from third.  Morin then followed with a home run to give Roger Williams their first lead of the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Beavers were able to level the score before scoring on a game winning single down the left field line, that took a hop over the defender's glove.

Roger Williams (3-12, 2-1 CCC) will take on Suffolk in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 2 at 10:30 am on Paolino Field.  The Hawks will then host Curry on Tuesday, Apr. 4 at 3:30 pm.
