Baseball: Weigel Hits Homeruns, Hawks Triumph Over Suffolk

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams baseball team hosted Suffolk on Sunday at Paolino Field for a double-header against the Rams. The Hawks downed the Rams in both games, 16-1, and 10-1.

In game one, Dan Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) went seven innings on the mound, facing 25 batters and striking out 10. JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) pitched eight innings in the second game, where he faced 27 batters, struck out eight batters, and three strikeouts looking.

At bat during game one, Sam Weigel (Brookfield, Conn.) hit a homerun, earning three RBIs. Both Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) and Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) added two runners batted in. In game two, Weigel hit another homerun and tallied three RBIs. Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), Hibbard, and Flynn each hit a double. Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) had three walks and three bases stolen.

Roger Williams began scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) was first to cross home. Hibbard scored next, advancing on a wild pitch. Two Hawks struck out looking before Massaro scored a run. With bases loaded, Flynn got a walk, allowing Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) to score before the end of the inning.

The Hawks went into the second inning up, 4-0. Hibbard scored a run, pushing Roger Williams farther ahead.

Suffolk's lone run was scored in the top of the third with Iorio doubling down the right field line to get an RBI, brining the score to 5-1. Roger Williams went on to score two runs in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on second and third base, Nick Zobian (Califon, N.J.) hit a single to the left-center and earned an RBI. Weigel hit his first home run on the day, propelling the Hawks into the double-digits, 11-1. Mike Bogosian (Cranston, R.I.) scored before the end of the inning.

The Hawks scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In game two, Suffolk struck early, scoring a run in the top of the first. Roger Williams didn't score until the bottom of the third.

In the fourth inning, Falvey hit a single out to right field, bringing in two runners to score and putting the Hawks up 3-1.

Roger Williams scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, then two in the seventh.

In the bottom of the eighth, Zobian hit a fly ball to right field, allowing Falvey to score. Weigel then hit his second homer of the day, getting three RBIs.

Roger Williams (4-12, 3-1 CCC) is set to host Curry on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:30 pm. The Hawks then host UMass Boston on Thursday, before heading back on the road.
