BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball dropped both games of their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Saturday, falling to the Gulls of #6 Endicott 12-4 in game one before dropping their second matchup, 3-2 at North Field.
In game one
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) hit put in two hits on the game with
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.),
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.),
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) and
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) each adding a hit. Flynn had two and Hawley and
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) each had in an RBI.
After Endicott scored a run in the bottom of the first Sheehan drove in a run with a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt attempt, that brought in Morin. Hawley then hit a grounder to shortstop bringing in Camelo to take a 2-0 lead. The Gulls bats erupted in the bottom half of the inning bringing five runs across to retake a lead they would not relinquish.
After Endicott added a pair of runs in the sixth, the Hawks trailed 8-2, before Flynn hit a home run over the right field wall to cut the lead down to four. The Gulls added another four runs in the bottom of the eighth to close out scoring.
In game two,
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) took the mound for the Hawks pitching eight innings of four hit ball, allowing three earned runs and striking out four in the 3-2 loss. Hawley brought in a runner to score, while Flynn, Sheehan, Camelo, and
Matt Massaro each had a hit in the matchup.
In the bottom of the second, Endiott took the lead on a bases loaded ground out, before Hawley hit a single up the middle that brought in Flynn from second base in the top of the third, leveling the score at 1-1.
After a Endicott home run was hit over the right field wall, Roger Williams added a run with Sheehan coming around to score following a throwing error by the second baseman.
Roger Williams (9-17, 7-3 CCC) will host Salve Regina on Tuesday, Apr. 18 at 3 pm before hosting WPI on Thursday, Apr. 20 at 3:30 pm. They will then be off for the weekend before taking on Curry on Tuesday, Apr. 25 at 3 pm.
