Baseball: Hawks Unable to Regain Lead Against Salve Regina

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams baseball team lost to Salve Regina on Tuesday afternoon, 9-8.

On the mound, Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) pitched 5.0 innings, facing 28 batters and striking out three. Nick Gleason (Northboro, Mass.) pitched 2.0 innings to face seven batters and record two strikeouts. Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) and JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) also took their place on the mound, pitching 1.1 and 0.2 innings respectively, and facing a combined 12 batters.

At bat, Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) got three hits, including one double and one triple, batting in five runners. Mike Bogosian (Cranston, R.I.) recorded one RBI and one walk.
Salve Regina started the game strong, earning four runs in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Hawley hit a double out to left field, bringing Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.), Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), and Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) in to score.

The Seahawks maintained their lead, adding one run in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning. Then, in the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded once again for Roger Williams, Bogosian earned a walk and batted in one runner for Sheehan to score.

The Hawks scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hawley hit a triple down the right field line. Flynn came in to home from first base, closing the gap between Salve Regina and Roger Williams, with the Seahawks just ahead, 6-5.

Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) knotted things up in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch. The Hawks then pulled ahead with London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) also scoring on a wild pitch. With Hibbard on third base, Hawley hit a single to right field to gain another RBI. Roger Williams was up 8-6 going into the eighth inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Seahawks scored three runs to regain the lead.

Roger Williams (9-18, 7-4 CCC) will be in action again on Thursday, April 20 at 3:30 pm when they host WPI in non-conference play. They will then be on the road to face Curry on Tuesday, April 25.
