Baseball: Hawks Pull Ahead in Eighth

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams baseball team came off of the field with a win in Thursday's non-conference game against WPI, 7-5.

On the mound, Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched 2.1 innings, faced 15 batters, and struck out two. Nick Harper (Westwood, N.J.) went 4.2 innings to face 19 batters, striking out six. MarkAnthony Glickman (Newbury, Mass.) and Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) each recorded 1.0 innings pitched in the game. Glickman faced three batters, striking out one, while Lauterbach faced four batters and struck out two.

At bat, Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) had two hits, including a homerun, scored one run, and batted in one runner. Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) had two runners batted in, stole two bases, and scored one run. Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) added one stolen base, one RBI, and scored two runs.

In the first inning, the Engineers' Tommy Burns scored a run. Then, with a tripe to right center, Jack Zawacki batted in two runners. With the Hawks up to bat, Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) scored. A single hit by Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) brought Massaro in to home, putting the Hawks behind, 3-2.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth when Flynn homered out to right field, knotting up the score, 3-3.

The top of the seventh inning saw WPI score two runs. At the bottom of the seventh, Massaro hit a single, allowing Falvey to score. Massaro then scored for the Hawks on a throwing error to tie the score again.

With Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) on third and Noah Hester (Old Saybrook, Conn.) on second base in the bottom of the eighth inning, Falvey hit a single to earn two RBIs as Hibbard and Hester each came across to score. The Engineers were unable to recover in the top of the ninth.

Roger Williams (10-18, 7-4 CCC) will be on the road on Tuesday, April 25 going against Curry in conference play at 3 pm. They will then go head-to-head against Eastern Connecticut State in a double-header on Thursday, April 27.
