NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Roger Williams softball team added another split day to their record on Tuesday afternoon when they faced Mitchell College. The Hawks lost the first game, 13-1, and came out on top in the second game, 5-3.
On the mound in game one was
Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) and
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.). Lundari pitched 4.0 innings, faced 25 batters, and had one strikeout. In game two, Germano and
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) appeared on the mound. Germano had 2.2 innings pitched, faced 11 batters, striking out two batters. Corey pitched 4.1 innings, faced 20 batters, and struck out one batter.
At bat in game one,
Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) earned two walks.
Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) recorded one hit and scored one run.
Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) added two hits, one of which was a double, while
Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.) and
Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.) added one hit apiece. In game two, Howell had one hit and two RBIs. Rosado added two hits, one runner batted in, and one run scored. Thomas got one hit, earned one run, and batted two runners in.
In game one, Roger Williams scored their lone run in the top of the first. With Rosado on third base, Wells hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Rosado in to score. In the bottom of the first inning, Mitchell scored eight runs. The Mariners added two runs in the second inning and three in the fourth.
In game two, the Hawks were first to score a run with Corey crossing home plate in the top of the third inning.
The Mariners knotted things up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run of their own.
Roger Williams pulled ahead in the top of the fifth when Howell doubled out to right field, allowing Rosado to score. In the bottom of the inning, Mitchell earned two runs with batters hitting back-to-back doubles.
In the top of the sixth inning, with two runners on bases, Thomas hit a single to earn two RBIs.
Kasey Ruo (Smithfield, R.I.) and
Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) both scored. Thomas then scored a run of her own from a sacrifice fly hit by Rosado, putting the Hawks up, 5-3.
Roger Williams (10-21, 2-8 CCC) is on the road on Saturday, April 22 to face Endicott in a double-header starting at 12 pm. They will then host Curry on Sunday, April 23.
