Softball: Hawks Drop Pair to Colonels in CCC Play

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University softball team dropped two contests to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Curry on Friday afternoon, falling to the Colonels 7-3 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
 
In the opening contest of the day the Hawks saw Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) pitch 4.2 innings with three earned runs a pair of walks and four strikeouts. Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) went 2 for 4 at the player, with Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.) adding a pair of hits and coming across to score on the day. Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.) hit an RBI double in the contest before coming around to touch home plate.
 
Curry struck first scoring three runs in the opening frame, Roger Williams responded in the bottom of the first with Thomas being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bringing in a run.  In the bottom of the second, Rosado hit an RBI single to left center field, bringing Uryga across to score, cutting the Curry lead to one.
 
In the bottom of the third inning Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) hit a ball to shortstop, beating the throw from the fielder as Thomas came across to score. In the top of the fifth inning with the score leveled, Curry added another three runs, before rounding out scoring in the sixth.
 
In game two, Thomas had the lone RBI of the game and drew a walk, while Taylor Myers (East Haven, Conn.) pitched three innings of one-hit ball in the loss coming in in relief.
 
The Hawks struck first scoring off a Thomas single, but Curry leveled the score in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly to left field.
 
In the top of the third the Colonels added four runs, taking a 5-1 lead before rounding out scoring in the top of the fifth.
 
Roger Williams (10-23, 2-10 CCC) travel to face Endicott on Saturday, Apr. 22 at 12 pm.  The Hawks are then scheduled to host Rhode Island College on Wednesday, Apr. 26 in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm.
