Softball: Hawks Split Double-Header with Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass.—The Roger Williams softball team split their double against Suffolk on Sunday evening. The Hawks won the first game, 9-4, but fell to the Rams, 7-5, in the second game.

In game one, Raegan Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched 6.0 innings facing 29 batters and striking six batters out. Taylor Myers (East Haven, Conn.) pitched 1.0 innings, facing two batters.

Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) pitched 6.0 innings in game two, facing 21 batters, with two strikeouts, and one strikeout looking. Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) had 1.0 inning pitched, facing six batters and recording two ground outs. Myers pitched 1.0 innings, facing five batters and earning one ground out.

At bat in game one, Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) earned three RBIs and one hit. Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) recorded two RBIs, two hits, and two runs.

In game two, Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) batted a double and scored one run. Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) recorded two hits. Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) scored two runs and had two ground outs.

Neither team scored in the first game until the third inning. Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.) hit a fly ball out to left field, earning an RBI and allowing Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.) to score. Then, a sacrifice fly by Wells brought O'Connor across home plate. Rosado was able to score on a passed ball, bringing the Hawks up 3-0.

At the top of the fourth, O'Connor hit a single where she advanced to second base on the throw but was out at third. Fehan scored on the throw, followed by Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.), giving Roger Williams two runs in the inning.

The Hawks gained two more runs in the fifth inning from a double hit by MacLean. Wells came in to score, followed by Casey Uryga (Berlin, Conn.).

Roger Williams was able to score two more runs, one by Rosado and one by Wells, before the Rams were able to get runners to home plate. Suffolk scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, putting the score to 9-4.

Suffolk began scoring in the bottom of the second in game two, earning one run in the inning. The Rams scored two more runs in the third inning.

The Hawks made it onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, with MacLean hitting a single out to right field, allowing O'Connor to score a run. A single, hit by Predaris, brought Wells and O'Connor in to score two more runs for Roger Williams, tying things up 3-3.

O'Connor and Rosado each scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, putting the Hawks in the lead. Suffolk scored, knotting things up, then scored two more runs to surpass Roger Williams, 7-5.

Roger Williams (7-11, 0-0 CCC) will be in action on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:30 pm as they take on UMass Dartmouth. The Hawks then face Wentworth in a double-header on Wednesday, April 5.
