NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University softball team dropped a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Friday to Salve Regina at Toppa Field, falling 5-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two.
In game one,
Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) went five innings giving up three earned runs with three strikeouts, while facing 25 batters.
Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 at the dish, coming across to score one run and a double.
Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with an RBI while drawing a walk.
In the first inning the Seahawks scored first on a fielder's choice. In the fourth inning the Hawks saw
Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) knock a sacrifice fly out to left field bringing in
Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) from third base, leveling the score at 1-1.
Salve Regina added a pair in the bottom of the fourth, but Roger Williams tacked one on in the top of the fifth with MacLean bringing in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Salve Regina added a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to close out the contest.
In game two,
Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) went the complete game throwing six innings, striking out one with two earned runs facing 29 batters.
After Salve Regina added a run in the bottom of the first inning, Roger Williams scored twice in the top of the third, off a pair of wild pitches, that brought in Rosado and
Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.).
After holding the Seahawks off the board for the following three innings, Salve Regina got hot in the bottom of the sixth bringing in two runs to seal the victory.
Roger Williams (8-14, 1-3 CCC) will face Wentworth on Tuesday, Apr. 11 at 3 pm for a CCC doubleheader. The Hawks will then travel to Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 4 pm before hosting Gordon on Friday, Apr. 14.
