Women’s Lacrosse: Hawks Fall to Mules in Non-Conference Play

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams women's lacrosse team fell to Colby College in their non-conference matchup Sunday evening on Bayside Field, 14-8.

Leading offensively for the Hawks was Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.), scoring three goals and picking up one ground ball. Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) scored two goals apiece. Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) led defensively with three ground balls and one caused turnover.

On the Mules side, Annie Eddy scored five goals and picked up one ground ball. Elizabeth Hennessey earned four goals and had two caused turnovers. Kat Munter tallied three ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Colby began scoring in the game with Eddy putting the ball in the net off of a free position shot. Cunningham put the Hawks on the scoreboard with a goal from a free position shot. Moments later, Cavanaugh scored, assisted by Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.). The Mules quickly knotted things up again before pulling ahead of the Hawks, finishing the period up 4-2.

In the second quarter, Colby scored six times before the Hawks were able to make a goal of their own. With just over three minutes left in the half, Beck put the ball in the net. This was followed by a goal from Cavanaugh, assisted by Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.), to put the score at 10-4.

Kelley was the first to put a shot in for the second half of the game, being assisted by Beck. Cavanaugh put another goal in, this one assisted by Beck. Near the end of the frame, Beck put in a goal of her own, tightening the lead of the Mules, 10-7.

Mirroring the second quarter, the Colby put in four goals in the fourth quarter before Roger Williams was able to score. The lone goal of the frame for the Hawks was scored by Cunningham, who rounded out scoring for the game.

Roger Williams (5-5, 2-0 CCC) will be on the road facing Nichols on Tuesday, April 4 at 7 pm. They will then host Endicott on Saturday, April 8.
