BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Salve Regina, 15-10, on Bayside Field Wednesday evening.
Kevin Murphy (Ramsey, N.J.) registered four points with three goals and one assist, while
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) did the same on two goals and a pair of assists.
Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and
Ryan Vendetti (Farmington, Conn.) each had a goal and assist in the matchup.
Defensively,
Kyle Zirn (Chester, N.H.) caused three turnovers in the tilt picking up four ground balls.
Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) and
Chris Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) each had two caused turnovers.
Jordan Pivarnik (Trumbull, Conn.) went 11-for-28 in faceoffs.
Salve Regina jumped out to a 2-0 lead before a goal by
Pehrson Szuluk (Avon, Conn.) cut the lead in half. The Seahawks extended their lead before Vendetti scored with 4:18 remaining in the opening quarter cutting the deficit back down to one. The Seahawks rebounded for a goal of their own, 40 seconds later, but back-to-back goals by the Hawks to end the frame leveled the score at 4-4.
Salve Regina jumped out to a 6-4 lead to start the second quarter, before Halpin put a goal on the board for the Hawks. Salve then rattled off three straight goals before a Roger Williams goal with 15 seconds remaining in the half pulled the Hawks within three.
The Hawks started the second half with a goal before trading with Salve Regina. The Seahawks again went on a run as they expanded their lead to 13-8. The Hawks and Seahawks then traded goals back and forth to close out the contest.
Roger Williams (9-6, 5-3 CCC) locked in the No. 4 seed in the CCC Tournament and will host the No. 5 seed Nichols on Saturday, Apr. 29 at a time TBD.
