DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team split with Nichols on Saturday, defeating the Bison in game one 9-5, before falling 4-3.
In game one,
Dan Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) went six innings, giving up two earned runs a pair of walks and four hits.
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) went 3 for 4 at the dish, with a walk, coming across to score twice.
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) tallied a hit and two RBIs in the contest as the
Ethan Keeney (Harwich, Mass.) and
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) both brought in a pair of runs.
After a scoreless first inning, Keeney knocked a single into center field, bringing home a pair of runners.
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) then reached on a fielder's choice, with
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) crossing home plate. The Hawks ended the top of the second with an eight-run lead.
The Bison got a pair back in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings, before Hawley brought in a run in the ninth. Nichols added a run in the bottom half of the inning to close it out.
In game two,
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) pitched seven innings, giving up four earned runs.
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.), and Hibbard each brought a run in.
Nichols scored three runs in the first inning before, Flynn reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed for
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) to come across to score. Hibbard then hit a single up the middle for an RBI to pull within one of the Bison.
In the bottom of the fifth Camelo hit a double down the left field line brining in Sheehan for the tying run. Nichols then scored a run in the bottom of the sixth as they held the Hawks off the scoreboard the rest of the game for the win.
Roger Williams (12-21, 8-6 CCC) will host Wheaton on Monday, May 1 at 4 pm on Paolino Field. They will then face UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, May 4 at 3:30 pm in North Dartmouth.
