BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Hawks came back to defeat Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Curry, 10-9, on Tuesday afternoon at Paolino Field.
The Hawks saw
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) and
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) both hit home runs, with Flynn brining two across and Falvey adding three RBIs.
Mike Bogosian (Cranston, R.I.) and
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) both added a pair of hits and Sheehan brought in three. The Hawks
MarkAnthony Glickman (Newbury, Mass.) had the win in the matchup, while
Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) closed things for the Hawks with his second save of the season.
Curry scored three runs in the top of the second, before adding a pair in the top of the third. The Hawks then added a pair in the bottom of the third, after Bogosian reached on a double to right center field leading off the inning, Falvey brought him home sending a shot over the right field wall.
With the bases loaded in the bottom half of the fourth the Hawks then saw Sheehan hit a double to the left centerfield gap, clearing the bases, as Bogosian came across to score from first.
After an error, the Colonels retook the lead with a three-run shot to left field. Another Curry home run in the top of the seventh gave the Colonels a 9-7 lead that they took into the eighth inning.
In the bottom half of the eighth Flynn had a bunt single down the third base line, that was then thrown over the head of the first basemen. Flynn advanced to third, scoring two in the process as the Hawks leveled the score at 9-9. Falvey then hit an RBI single to right center, giving Roger Williams the lead for good.
Roger Williams (6-12, 5-1 CCC) will host UMass Boston on Thursday, Apr. 6 before closing out the week with a CCC doubleheader against Wentworth up in Boston.
