Box Score 2 WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The Roger Williams University baseball team defeated Wentworth in both games of their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Saturday, defeating the Leopards 15-10 in game one, and 7-2 in game two.
In the opening tilt of the day
Dan Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) pitched six innings with one earned run, striking out nine with one walk and seven hits. At the plate
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs and came across to score twice.
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) crossed the plate four times drawing a walk and going 3-for 4 with a pair of RBIs.
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) also brought in three RBIs with a pair of hits.
In the top of the first the Hawks scored after a sacrifice fly from
Matt Massaro brought in Falvey. In the top of the second four runs came around for the Hawks. In the bottom half of the inning, the Leopards added a run to close out the second trailing 3-1.
Roger Williams led 7-1 after the top of the fourth but Wentworth again added a run. After adding eight between the fifth and sixth inning, the Leopards responded in the seventh scoring eight runs, but the Hawks held the Leopard rally short.
In game two, the Hawks saw
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) go six innings giving up six hits with a pair of walks and two earned runs. The Hawks hurler also had four strikeouts. Massaro went 3-for-4 in the contest driving in a pair of runs, with
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) adding three hits and an RBI coming across to score three.
In the first inning,
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) drew a bases loaded walk brining in one. A single to center by
Chris Balzano (Saco, Maine) brought in another run before a wild pitch drew in the third run in the top of the first.
In the top of the second Hibbard hit a double to left, to add a run and
Matt Massaro hit a single to left field to take a 5-0 lead. After Wentworth added a pair of runs,
Matt Massaro doubled again to bring in Hibbard in the bottom of the sixth before Camelo hit a homer over the left field wall to close out scoring on the day.
Roger Williams (8-13, 7-1 CCC) hosts in-state rival Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, Apr. 11 at 3 pm. They will then host Keene State on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 3:30 pm.
