DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team came away with a 5-3 victory on Wednesday over Nichols in the first matchup of the double elimination play.
Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) pitched 5.1 innings of one hit ball with four walks and three strikeouts, giving up a lone unearned run.
Brett Lauterbach (Fairfield, Conn.) came up with the win in relief going 2.0 innings in the contest with a hit and a walk.
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.) went three for five at the plate with an RBI and
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) also added a pair of hits in the contest.
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) had four RBIs in the contest.
The first run of the game came after Flynn took a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in a run in the top of the third. In the fifth, Flynn hit a ball to second, but was able to bring in
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) from third base.
The Bison responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored off a fielder's choice. In the top of the sixth the Hawks saw Falvey hit a double down the right field line that allowed a run to come in, taking a 3-1 lead.
After Nichols tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, Flynn hit a homer over the right field wall in the top of the ninth to bring in a pair of runs for Roger Williams as they took the lead for good.
Roger Williams (15-23, 9-7 CCC) will travel to face No. 2 Salve Regina in the second game of the CCC Tournament Double Elimination round on Thursday, May 11.
