MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team ended their season on Sunday afternoon, falling to #7 Wesleyan, 19-5, in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at Smith Field.
Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) had four points for Roger Williams with three goals and an assist against the hosts.
Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) and
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) each had a pair of points, with McErlain dishing out a pair of assists, while Cavanaugh scored twice.
Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) had three caused turnovers in the contest.
The host Cardinals had five goals in the opening 3:37 of play, before Kelley put the Hawks on the board with a goal with 10:39 remaining in the first quarter. Wesleyan then added another pair of goals, before McErlain found Cavanaugh for a goal to cult the lead down to five.
Over the next 20 minutes of play the Cardinals scored 11 straight goals to take command of the contest. In the fourth quarter Cavanaugh scored the third goal of the game for the Hawks before a pair of goals from Kelley assisted by
Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) and
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) respectively. The Cardinals added a goal in the final frame before
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) rounded out scoring for the Hawks.
Roger Williams rounds out their season with a 15-7 record after going 7-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, culminating with their third straight CCC Championship.
