Softball: Roger Williams Splits with Nichols in CCC Action

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University softball team split with Nichols on Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.  The Hawks took game one 2-0, before falling 7-5 in game two.

Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) and Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) both recorded a hit, while Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.) recorded an RBI.  Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) took the circle for the Hawks going 7.0 IP, with 6 strikeouts and allowing one walk with four hits.

Germano shut down the Bison offense, holding Nichols scoreless on the day.  The Hawks offense broke through in the fourth inning with Howell reaching on a fielder's choice, while Maclean came around to score.

Thomas then hit a ball out to left field to bring in Rosado from third to round out the scoring in game one.

In game two, Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) went 2 for 3 at the dish with MacLean bringing in one with a hit and RBI. Nicolette Fraser (Swampscott, Mass.) and Kelsey Burr (Warwick, R.I.) each added a run at the plate.

After Fraser put the ball in play to bring in MacLean, The Bison rattled off five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, to take a 5-1 lead. The Hawks then added a pair of runs off a Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly by MacLean to left field.

The Bison responded with a run in the bottom of the second, before Beaulieu brought in a run on a sac fly to left in the top of the fourth. Nichols responded again with a run in the fourth before Burr knocked a single to center field for a run to close out the contest.

With the loss, Roger Williams (11-26, 3-13 CCC) fails to qualify for the CCC Tournament, and will close out the regular season on Sunday, May. 7 against the University of New England on Senior Day.
