BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University baseball tam fell in game one of their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader to Gordon, 6-4, before rebounding for an 11-5 victory over the Fighting Scots in game two on Paolino Field.
Prior to the first game of the day, the Hawks honored their five seniors,
Dan Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.),
Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.),
Matt Falvey (Walpole, Mass.),
Nick Harper (Westwood, N.J.), and
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) in a pregame ceremony.
Falvey went 4 for 5 in the leadoff spot, stealing three bases.
Matt Massaro earned a hit with an RBI, while
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) picked up a hit with an RBI.
Dan Massaro pitched seven innings, with six strikeouts and no runs.
In the bottom of the first the Hawks struck first with
Matt Massaro knocking a single to center field to bring in
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) and Falvey. The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the sixth with Hawley reaching on a bunt to bring in
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.).
The Fighting Scotes scored six runs in the eighth and ninth inning, before the Hawks' picked up another run when Falvey hit a single up the middle.
In game two,
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) the ball going five innings allowing four runs, two earned, with a pair of strikeouts. In Flynn went 3 for 4 in the contest with two RBIs coming of fa home run.
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) also picked up a pair of hits with four RBIs with a homerun.
After Gordon took a 1-0 lead, Morin grounded out in the bottom of the first, but a pair of runs came across to score and take the lead for the Hawks. In the bottom of the fifth,
Matt Massaro added a run after bringing in Falvey, before Camelo hit a three run shot to take a 6-1 lead.
Gordon cut the lead down to three before the Hawks added three runs in the seventh and a pair in the third to close out scoring for the Hawks. Gordon added two runs, but it was not enough as the Hawks cruised for the victory.
Roger Williams (14-23, 9-7 CCC) will face No. 3 Nichols on Wednesday, May 10 at a time to be determined in the first game of the CCC Tournament.
