BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Hartford on Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field in the first ever meeting between the two programs, in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match in history for Hartford.
Roger Williams out shot Hartford, 14-6, in the matchup. Roger Williams also held the edge in corner kicks with seven, five of which came in the first half.
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) had a pair of saves for Roger Williams, with Ryan Lunn stopping three of the four shots he faced on the opposite end.
After being in the game for less than twenty seconds, Matt Bagley (Trumbull, Conn.) scored a penalty kick goal for the Roger Williams Hawks, putting them in the lead.
In the second half, Hartford succeeded in knotting up the score with a goal by Trey Sadler, coming off a free kick just outside the box, putting his shot into the upper left corner of the net.
For the remaining 34 minutes, both teams fought to break the tie, despite their efforts the final score remained evened, closing out the contest with a tie.
Roger Williams (2-1-3, 0-0-0, CCC) will face Johnson and Wales on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 pm at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex in Providence. They will then travel to Curry the following Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11:00 am for a CCC matchup.
