Field Hockey: Hawks Dominate Play, Down Manhattanville in Sunday Matinee

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team led wire to wire, in an 8-1 victory over the Valiants of Manhattanville on Sunday afternoon on Bayside Field in non-conference action.

The Hawks took 29 shots in the contest, putting 18 attempts on target in the matchup, with Manhattanville recording 10 saves.  The Hawks also earned 12 penalty corners in the matchup, leading the category by 10.

There were nine different goal scorers for the Hawks with Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had a pair of goals and an assist, while putting all three shots on target. Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) and Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) each had a goal and an assist in the contest, with Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) making two saves in the win.

King got the scoring started early, after Doherty found her on a crossing pass in front of the net, just 2:32 into the match.  The Hawks then saw King connect with Doherty on another cross in front of the net, this time with Doherty finishing on the attempt.

In the second quarter, King struck with 9:57 remaining before the half, while Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) scored with a goal with 4:35 remaining in the half.

Coming out of the halftime break with a 4-0 lead, the Hawks saw Rocheleau finish for her first goal of the season, before Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored with 4:04 remaining in the third quarter.

In the final frame Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) and Kailey Daddona (Merrimack, N.H.) each added goals for the Hawks, while Fiona Doherty scored the lone goal for Manhattanville.

Roger Williams (4-2, 0-0 CCC) will play at Salve Regina on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 pm before beginning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a road contest at Endicott on Saturday, sept. 23 at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday, Sept. 27 on Bayside Field.
