BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team jumped out to an early lead, as the Hawks cruised to a 5-0 victory over non-conference foe WPI on Friday evening on Bayside Field.
The Hawks out shot the Engineers 17-4, putting 15 shots on cage, while also playing even in corners.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had to goals in the match, while
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) added a goal and assist.
Kailey Daddona (Merrimack, N.H.) and
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) both had a goal in the contest.
Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) and
Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) both added assists.
The Hawks got rolling early in the contest, with King scoring after a pass by Carney. Off a corner by King, the Hawks went Timbrouck to Daddona for their second goal taking a 2-0 goal under five minutes into the contest. In the second quarter, the Hawks scored again, this time by Monahan who scored her first collegiate goal.
In the third, King scored again to go up by four, before Timbrouck scored the final goal in the fourth.
With the win, Head Coach
Jill Reeve picked up her 150
th career win as a collegiate head coach.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will host Mount Holyoke on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 3:00 PM, before playing three contests on the road.
