BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over the Lyons of Mount Holyoke, 3-1, Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field.
The Hawks dominated play, outshooting the Lyons 22-6, with 13 shots going on cage. The Lyons held the edge in penalty corners, with five to the Hawks four.
Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) had two saves in the contest in the second half, while Roger Williams saw three goals scored by three separate players.
After a scoreless first half, the Hawks finally broke through with
Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) putting the first goal into the cage for Roger Williams. Just over three minutes later,
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) then scored off of a pass from
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) giving the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Laurissa Montigny scored for the Lyons before
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) scored off a pass from
Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) four minutes later to close out the victory.
Roger Williams (2-0, 0-0 CCC) will travel to take on Babson on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6:00 pm before taking on Westfield State on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 pm at Alumni Stadium.
