BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team defeated UMass Boston on Monday evening, 3-1, in non-conference action.
The Hawks outshot the Beacons, 12-7, with five of their attempts landing on target. The Beacons placed four shots on net, with Roger Williams holding a 4-0 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Three different players scored in the contest for the Hawks, with
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) and
Rachel Oster (Scituate, R.I.) picking up assists in the match.
Roger Williams struck first when a ball coming off a corner kick taken by
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.) bounced in and out of the goalkeepers' hands. After bouncing for a second,
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) was able to get a touch on the ball, putting into the net in the 11
th minute of action.
Just 7:05 later, Oster put a ball through to
Sabrina Sherman (Brentwood, N.H.) who was able to finish the play with the second goal for the Hawks. In the 26
th minute, Oster had her turn to score, putting a ball through the legs of the Beacons' goalkeeper. Roger Williams led 3-0 heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, Kaylee Haynes scored for UMass Boston, before the Hawks held on for the victory.
Roger Williams (3-5-2, 1-0-0 CCC) will play at Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 pm. The Hawks will then take on Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Endicott on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 3:00 pm, before hosting UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 pm.
