BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team downed Eastern Connecticut State, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon on Bayside Field in non-conference action.
Roger Williams put 19 shots up in the matchup with 11 going on cage, while the Hawks defense held the Warriors to one shot in the contest. Roger Williams also held a 9-1 edge in penalty corners.
The Hawks had five different goal scorers in the matchup with
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) dishing out a pair of assists.
Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) also had an assist in the match, along with
Kailey Daddona (Merrimack, N.H.)

In the opening minute of the game, King put in a penalty corner, finding
Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) who tallied her fourth goal of the season, putting the Hawks up, 1-0. The Hawks would control the contest, putting up three more shots, with two landing on target, but not finding the back of the net.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Hawks scored with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter, when King put a pass in to
Ella Waryas (Foxborough, Mass.) as she scored her first goal of the season.
In the fourth quarter,
Emma Sheldon (Suffield, Conn.) tallied her first collegiate goal 3:28 into the final frame, before
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) put a shot into the upper right corner of the net, scoring her third of the season.
Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with 2:45 left in the contest as the Hawks held on for the win.
Roger Williams (7-2, 1-0 CCC) will host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Western New England on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1:00 pm on Bayside Field. The Hawks will then face Plymouth State on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4:00 pm, before returning to host Nichols in CCC action the following Saturday.
