Women’s Tennis: Hawks Down Fighting Scots at Gordon Tennis Courts

WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team defeated Gordon College on Saturday, defeating the Fighting Scots, 8-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
 
In doubles play the Roger Williams No. 1 doubles pairing of Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) defeated Gordon's Annette Kim (Andover, Mass.) and Serena Ross (Boerne, Texas), 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, the Hawks earned another win with Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) picking up the 8-3 victory over Amanda Kim (Andover, Mass.) and Chloe Hanley (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Rounding out doubles play Roger Williams' Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) picked up the win over Abbigail Fournier (Biddeford, Maine) and Hannah Hovda (East Sandwich, Mass.).
 
In singles play, the Hawks watched Ferraro pick up a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Gordon's Annette Kim. Cahoon added a win at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Fighting Scots' Ross to clinch the match. The Hawks took singles wins at third, fifth and sixth singles, but Fournier tallied the lone point for Gordon College in the match with a 7-5, 7-5 win over McCarthy.
 
Gordon (3-3, 2-3 CCC) will host Emerson on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 3:00 pm at the Brigham Athletic Complex. They will then take part in the NEWITT hosted by Amherst on Friday, Oct. 6. The Fighting Scots will then return to CCC play on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 pm at Western New England, before celebrating Senior Day against Nichols on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11:00 am.
 
Roger Williams (7-2, 1-1 CCC) will receive a visit from Endicott on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 4:00 pm. They will then travel to face Salve Regina the following day, Wednesday, Oct. 4 match at 4:00 pm. The Hawks will close their regular season slate with three straight CCC matches.
