Men’s Soccer: Hawks Fall to WPI in Non-Conference Battle

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team fell short to WPI at Bayside Field 1-0 on Tuesday night.

In a game that provided limited opportunities for each offense, WPI was able to come out on top in a gritty battle against the Hawks. It was a battle of possession in the first half, as both teams were not able to get many looks at the net. The squads combined for just four shots on goal in the first half, with only two of those landing on net, both by WPI. At the half, both sides remained scoreless.

In the second half, both sides saw more opportunities. WPI was able to fire nine shots to the Hawks three, two of which landed on net, but were saved by Engineers goalkeeper Savio Ketnouvong. First blood was not drawn until the 74th minute mark, when forward Aaron Vaz dropped in what would be the game winner into the back right side of the goal. Despite a few good looks for Roger Williams in the second half, the Engineers went on the defend their lead and hold off the Hawks, securing the 1-0 victory.

Roger Williams (6-4-1, 1-1 CNE) will dive back into conference play in their next matchup, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Gordon. As for WPI (7-2-2), they will head to Salve Regina to take on the Seahawks on Saturday, Oct.5 as well.
