SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University field hockey needed all four quarters as the team defeated Conference of New England (CNE) foe Western New England, 2-1, Saturday at Golden Bear Stadium.
The Hawks had a 15-8 lead in shots, with 10 of those shots being on goal. The Hawks also held the edge 10-6 in penalty corners.
The Golden Bears saw a pair of shots on goal from Sarah Johnston, with Haley Kaczka also adding a shot on goal, with Tania Evans scoring the lone WNE goal. Zoey Wexler made seven saves in the cage, with Keegan McMahon making a defensive save.

Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) made three saves for the Hawks in the contest, while
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) had a pair of shots on goal.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) and
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) each had a goal and an assist in the match.
Western New England struck first in the closing moments of the opening quarter, with Johnston finding Evans open for the goal.
After a scoreless second and third quarter, the Hawks were under pressure to counter, The first goal game when playing with an advantage due to a yellow card. The Hawks had King off the corner find Duquette who then scooped a shot over the goalkeeper for the game-tying goal. Shortly after, Duquette returned the favor finding King in front of the net for the game-winner with 2:22 remaining in the contest.
Roger Williams (9-5, 2-1 CNE) will host Eastern Connecticut State on Monday, Oct. 14 at 4:00 pm. The Hawks will then host in-state rival Salve Regina for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for Senior Day.
