Field Hockey: Timbrouck Strikes Twice in Hawks Win Over Warriors

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team defeated Eastern Connecticut State, 3-0, on Monday afternoon on Bayside Field in non-conference action.
 
Eastern Connecticut State (5-6, 1-1 LEC) finished the contest with four shots in the matchup with two landing on cage. The two teams finished with five penalty corners a piece after the Warriors earned four in the final frame.
 
Kiana Webster made nine save on 12 shots on goal, with Sophie Ash and Bree Foucault each putting a shot on goal.
 
For the Hawks, Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) had a pair of goals with three shots on goal, while Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) scored a goal. Anna Kruggel (Scituate, Mass.) dished out an assist. Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) and Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, R.I.)each had a save, while Haudenshield picked up the win.
 
 
The Hawks struck first, with Timbrouck sending a blast into the back of the cage by Webster in net, 4:21 into the contest. The Hawks would outshoot the Warriors, 4-1 in the contest, while leading in corners, 2-1 after the first 15 minutes of action.
 
In the second quarter, the Hawks extended their lead, after Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) inserted the ball on a penalty corner, the ball made it's way out of the scoring area to Kruggel who passed the ball along to Monahan, who then fired a shot into the back of the cage, through a group of defenders.
 
After a scoreless third quarter, the Hawks held a 17-2 lead in shot attempts, with a 9-1 lead in shots on goal.  The Hawks had four corners in the match after 45 minutes of play. In the fourth, Timbrouck was on the receiving end of a deflection, and scored her second goal of the match, putting the Hawks up 3-0 with 12:26 remaining.
 
 
Roger Williams (9-5, 2-1 CNE) will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 pm when they take on in-state rival Salve Regina.  The Hawks will then take on Conference of New England (CNE) foe Nichols on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 pm in Dudley.
