BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit to #16 MIT on Wednesday evening on Bayside Field in a non-conference matchup agains the Engineers.

MIT is now 4-0 all-time against the Hawks.  The Hawks have been outscored in those matchups 17-9.

MIT saw three different goal scorers as Audrey Oh, Eva Oppenheim, and Faith Choe each had a goal in the match. Maeve Zimmer made four saves for the Engineers in net.

The Hawks got contributions from both Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) and Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) in cage with each making a pair of saves. Offensively, Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) each scored while Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) and Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) each picked up an assist.

After the Hawks controlled pace in the opening quarter, holding the Engineers without a shot, MIT came to life in the second frame. Choe scored on the first Engineer shot on goal, taking the 1-0 lead into the second half.

After 5:15 of play in the second half, Duquette found King in front of the net, leveling the score on the goal. After an initial save by Brazil, Oh was able to pick up her shot and score on a rebound, taking a 2-1 lead just over three minutes later. A few minutes later, Oppenheim scored with 2:57 remaining to take a 3-1 lead going into the fourth.

In the final quarter, off a corner, King inserted the ball to Carney, who backhanded a pass to Monahan. Monahan then slammed a shot through a group of players, into the back of the net to put the Hawks down one with 13:26 remaining. The Hawks were unable to get another shot off throughout the contest, as the Engineer defense stood tall, clinching the win.
