Men's Soccer: Hawks Take Down Leopards 3-1 in CNE Matchup

BOSTON, MASS. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team defeated Wentworth 3-1 in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Roger Williams improved their CNE record with the win, moving them to 3-3-1 on the seaosn. The win moves them to fifth in the conference, tying them with Western New England.

Wentworth was able to draw first blood in the game, as it was an own goal that forced the Hawks to play from behind in this one. The own goal was scored just three minutes into the game. After the defensive blunder, Roger Williams held the Leopards scoreless for the remainder of the half, however they were unable to generate any offense of their own, sending them into the half trailing 1-0. On the half, Roger Williams doubled up Wentworth in shots, as they fired off six total and four on goal against Wentworth goalkeeper Mason Brooks.

It was a tail of two halves for the Hawks, as they went on to score three unanswered goals in the second frame propelling them to a 3-1 win. First it was Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.), who netted his fourth goal of the season on a feed from first year Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.). The assist brings Jastrab's total on the year to five, good for the team high. Just five minutes later, Jastrab took matters into his own hands, netting his fifth goal of the year from Noah Massotti (Douglas, Mass.), which is good for the team lead. The goal pushed the Hawks ahead 2-1 with 40 minutes left to play. First year Louis Hawkins (Norwich, Conn.) put away the dagger at the 77 minute mark, his second goal on the year, and second in the last two games. The goal would further expand the lead for Roger Williams, allowing them to comfortably handle Wentworth. Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) chipped in four saves in the win, facing a total of 12 shots in the matchup.

The Hawks (8-7-1, 3-3-1 CNE) will head back to Boston on Saturday, as they will take on Suffolk in another CNE matchup at 3:00 PM.
