Field Hockey: Hawks Close Out Regular Season with Loss to #4 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. — The Roger Williams University field hockey team fell to fourth-ranked Tufts, 5-1, on Sunday at Ounjian Field. The Hawks dropped to 14-6 on the season, while the Jumbos improved to 12-2.

Tufts took control early, scoring three times in the first quarter. Andrea Delgiudice opened the scoring just over five minutes in, assisted by Claire Casey. Reagan Malo and Gabby Sousa added goals before the first period ended, giving the Jumbos a commanding 3-0 lead.

Hannah Biccard extended the advantage for Tufts with an unassisted goal in the second quarter, bringing the score to 4-0 by halftime. She struck again in the fourth, sealing the win with her second tally of the day.

Roger Williams avoided the shutout when Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored with 1:35 remaining, off a pass by Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.), for her 19th goal of the season.

The Hawks were outshot 30-6, but goalkeeper Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) made 13 saves to keep the Hawks in the game defensively. The Jumbos' defense held firm, allowing just one penalty corner and three shots on goal throughout the game.

Roger Williams (14-6, 4-1 CNE) will turn their focus to the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament.  The seeding for the tournament will be released at the end of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2.
