PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team defeated the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College, 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16) on Wednesday evening, as 
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished an assist shy of her personal best in the match.
 
Mattiucci led the team with 50 assists, while 
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) finished with 17 kills. 
Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) had 13 kills while hitting .323 and 
Peyton Felix hit .385 with 11 kills in the match. The Hawks as a team hit .286, with Mattiucci also picking up 10 digs for a double-double, with seven kills. 
Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) led the team with 26 digs, while 
Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.),
 Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.), and 
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) each finished with 10 or more digs. Jackson also earned a double-double with 10 kills.
 
The Anchorwomen hit .160 collectively with Sarina Marines earning 15 kills. Yuleisy Alvelo had 31 assists in the match, with Carolyn Bailey earning 18 digs, while Alvelo and Daniella Escudero each had 15 in the contest.
 
In the opening set, RIC led by two, before coming out with a four-point run taking an 18-12 lead. The Hawks were able to cut the deficit down to two, trailing 22-20 before a pair of kills and an error by Roger Williams allowed the Anchorwomen to clinch the set.
 
RIC led 10-7 in the second set, but Roger Williams went on a 9-0 run, taking a commanding 16-10 lead. The Hawks were able to expand their lead to as many as eight in the set, before eventually closing out the win.
 
The tow squads played to a 14-14 draw in the third set, before a kill by Mattiucci sparked a four point run for the Roger Williams, who took an 18-14 lead. The Hawks then were able to expand their lead to win the set by seven.
 
In the fourth set, Roger Williams led by five at 17-12, but the Hawks scored four straight points, taking a nine point advantage. Leading by seven, 23-16, an attack error by RIC and a kill by Picchietti ended the match.
 
Roger Williams (14-10, 4-2 CNE) will travel to Springfield, Mass. for a Saturday, Nov. 2 match at Western New England. The Hawks will then host Nichols on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center, before closing out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 pm.
