BEVERLY, Mass. – Roger Williams battled valiantly, but fell to Conference of New England (CNE) foe Endicott, 6-1, at the South Tennis Courts on the Gulls' campus.
In doubles action, Emily Leclerc and Abbey Fleming paired for a No. 3 win over
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Gabrielle Petronio (Wolcott, Conn.), 6-2. Endicott then sealed the doubles point at No. 1 singles, with a 6-3 win by Lejla Guster and Ripley Uyeda over
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador). The No. 2 doubles match between Caroline Sutliffe and Olivia Martinelli against
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) also went in favor of the Gulls 7-6 (7-3).
In singles play, the Gulls took the first match at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory by Leclerc, before earning a win at No. 5 singles with Sutfliffe defeating
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) 6-2, 6-2. The Gulls clinched the match at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win by Guster.
After a win at No. 6 singles by Amber Woods, the Hawks earned their first point after a win by retirement at No. 4 singles, with Uyeda finishing the match with an Endicott win at the No. 2 singles spot.
Roger Williams (9-3, 2-2 CNE) will take on Curry in CNE action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in Milton. The Hawks will then close out their season on Wednesday, Oct. 9 against Western New England at 4:00 pm for Senior Day.
