BRISTOL, R.I – The Roger Williams men's soccer team fell to Johnson and Whales (JWU) 2-0 at Bayside Field on Monday afternoon.
Roger Williams lack of offense came back to hurt them in this one, as they were shutout by JWU goalkeeper Declan Caster. The Hawks did not have many opportunities in this one, as the JWU defense limited the men's offense for the entirety of the game. The Hawks were able to fire off seven shots in this one, with the Wildcats letting off eight of their own, leaving four on net, and two for goals. Roger Williams landed three of their shots on net, all corralled by Caster, who faced few attempts in the matchup.
The action began at the 20-minute mark, when Dominic Marino played a ball in for Christopher Vargas, who was able to sneak one by Hawks goalkeeper
Hogan Cain, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Both defenses limited any further looks for the offenses, as JWU headed into the half with a one goal lead. The second half consisted of more strong defensive play, as neither side could seem to gather any momentum. That was until a counter by JWU gave them a two on one situation, leading to a goal by Conner Elliot on a feed from Carlos Andrade. The goal was plenty of cushion for the Wildcats as they eventually went on the shutout the Roger Williams 2-0.
The loss drops the Hawks record to 6-6-1 (1-2 CNE). The win for JWU moves them to 10-1-1 on the year. The Hawks will travel to University of New England on Saturday at 3:00 PM and look to snap their four game losing streak.
