WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – The No. 5 seeded Roger Williams men's soccer team will travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take on the No. 4 seeded University of Hartford on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the first round of the Conference of New England (CNE) playoffs.
After a 5-0 win on Tuesday against Curry College, the Hawks have been slotted in as the No. 5 seed in the upcoming CNE playoff tournament. They finished the regular season with a 9-7-3 overall record, and a 4-3-2 record in conference action. Roger Williams will be seeking vengeance from Hartford, as they fell to them 2-0 on Sep. 28 in the regular season.
As a team, the Hawks have recorded 34 goals on the seasons, giving them a 1.79 goals per game average. In addition, 33 of the team's 34 goals have come via the assist. They have outshot opponents 233-181 on the year, with 124 of those landing on goal.
Individually, the Hawks are led by first year standout
Tyler Jastrab (Townsend Mass.), as he leads the squad in goals, assists, and points. His six goals on the season are good for sixth best in the conference, and his 18 points slot him in the top five for points across the conference. His six assists rank him second in the conference, trailing only Kellijah Morgan's eight, who the Hawks will matchup against on Saturday.
Junior
Will Schiffer (Cotuit, Mass.) also ranks inside the top five for assists across the conference, as his five assists rank second on the team and fifth in the conference. Captains
Andre Caceres (Ossining N.Y.),
Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.) and
John Fogarty (Sciuate, Mass.) have been stable forces in the midfield and on defense for the Hawks, logging team leading minutes and chipping in goals and assists when needed. The same can be said for sophomore center back
Brandon Rodriguez (Norwalk, Conn.), who has three goals of his own on the season (two game winners) from defense.
In net, senior goalkeeper
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) has started 18 of the teams 19 games in net, recording 49 saves on the season with a save percentage of .700.
The matchup between No. 4 Hartford and No. 5 Roger Williams will take place on Al-Marzook Field at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
