Women's Volleyball: Hawks Down UNE, 3-2, and Advance to CNE Semi-Finals

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams women's volleyball team had a re-match opportunity against their most recent regular season opponent, the University of New England, at home on Tuesday in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament First Round. The Hawks downed the Nor'easters this time a round 3-2 (26-24),(25,21),(23-25),(15,25),(15,13), and advance on to the CNE Semi-Finals.
 
The Hawks won the first two sets before the Nor'easters retaliated, winning the next two for themselves and evening the score. In the final set of the match, the teams battled for points for some time before the Hawks were able to pull ahead in the end, scoring four straight kills and getting the win for the match.
 
Three Hawks had double-digits kills in the game with Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) leading with 13 kills overall. Right behind Picchietti, Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. For assists this game, Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) led the Hawks, having 22 for the match. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had a whopping 31 for the duration of the game.
 
For University of New England, Ellijah Hanley had 15 kills in this match. Hayley Shult led the Nor'easters in assists, having 43 throughout the game. As for digs, Kelsey Bradshaw led the team, having 29 digs throughout the match.
 
The Roger Williams women's volleyball team (17-11, 6-3 CNE) will move on to the CNE Semi-Finals match against Wentworth on the road this Thursday at the Nelson Rec Center in Boston, Mass.
