Hawks Route Coast Guard, Grab First Win in Home Opener

BRISTOL, R.I – The Roger Williams men's basketball team dominated Coast Guard in their home opener on Wednesday night.

It was an offensive clinic by the Hawks in this one, as they put up 105 points in route to a 33-point victory, 105-72. The win avenges the Hawks loss last season at Coast Guard which saw them fall 76-84. It is also the second time in the last three years the Hawks have crossed the triple digit threshold against the Bears.

The Hawks shot 49% from the field and 48% from three-point range, knocking down 21 of 43 attempts. On the other side, Coast Guard shot just 21% from three, going 4-19. The Hawks turned the ball over just six times to CSU's 14.

Individually, Graduate Student Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) led the way in the scoring department, pouring in a game-high 24 points, while shooting 9-13 from the field and 4-5 from three. Junior Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) added on 21 of his own, all via the three ball, shooting 7-10 from beyond the arc. First year Aston Leclerc (Gorham, Maine) and Sophomore Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) added 13 and 11 respectively. Every member of the team made an appearance in the game.

For the Bears, Luke Farrell did the heavy lifting putting up a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Declan Rooney added 13 points of his own, followed by Ben Yagey's eight.

Roger Williams (1-1) will host Rivier at home on Saturday, Nov. 16 where they look to avenge last year's loss, a game that saw them turn the ball over 25 times before eventually falling 68-74.
