WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – The Roger Williams men's soccer team advances to the Conference of New England (CNE) semi-finals with a convincing 3-0 win over Hartford University.
After a scoreless first half that saw Roger Williams outshoot Hartford 5-1, the men were able to pick up serious momentum to begin the second half. 10 minutes into the second half, CNE Rookie of the Year
Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) cleaned up a deflected save, pushing the Hawks ahead 1-0. Less than one minute later, Jastrab found
Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.) streaking across the middle, who netted another Hawks goal to expand the lead to 2-0. The men were not done just yet, as first year
Louis Hawkins (Norwich, Conn.) tacked on another on a feed from senior captain
Jason Salley (Durham, Conn.), pushing Hartford out of reach in the first round of the playoffs.
Individually, first year's
Tyler Jastrab and
Louis Hawkins each netted a goal, their seventh and fourth respectively. Jastrab proved why he was awarded ROTY honors just yesterday, breaking the scoreless tie to begin the second half. As for Hawkins, he has now scored four goals in the team's last five games. Junior
Liam Blaisdell also got in the action, scoring on a feed from the team leader in assists in Jastrab. Lastly, All Conference Honorable Mention
Jason Salley assisted Hawkins' goal, his second assist in the last two games. In net,
Hogan Cain faced just 1 shot, as the Hawks defense prevented any looks for Hartford. On the game, Roger Williams outshot the opponent 12-1.
The win on the road will send the No. 5 Hawks to the semi-finals for the third straight season, where they will take on No. 1 Endicott. The semifinal matchup will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 PM.
