BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams women's basketball team defeated Curry College 60-52 in CNE action. The win gives them their third straight conference win, moving them 5-3 overall, and 3-0 in CNE action.
The matchup was tight from start to finish, with Curry leading the Hawks 14-12 following the conclusion of the first quarter. Offense was hard to come by in the second quarter as well, as each team scored just 14 points, sending Curry into the half with a 28-26 lead over the Hawks. Out of the half, the teams traded baskets before Curry went on a quick 6-0 run of their own, giving them their largest lead of the night at eight.
Lilli Clark responded with a mid-range jumper, a shot that would allow the Hawks to go on and make a 7-0 run. The teams headed into the fourth quarter knotted at 46. Roger Williams held the opponent to just six points in the fourth, securing the 60-52 win.
The Hawks forced Curry into 22 turnovers compared to 10 of their own. On the glass, the women outrebounded the opponent 28-27. Roger Williams attempted 29 free throws to the opponents nine, knowing down 20 of those attempts.
Individually,
Chloe Richardson led the Hawks in scoring, dropping in a game-high 15 points. She also added three steals in the win. E. Dufrane added 10 points of her own, to go along with a game-high six assists. Kylie McCarthy led Curry with 14 points.
The Hawks move to 5-3 (3-0 CNE) with the win against Curry. They will travel to Smith College for the Smith Holiday Classic following their return from winter break.
