BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team fell to the University of New England on Thursday evening, 62-39, closing out their season in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals in the Harold Alfond Forum.
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, along with three assists and a block and a steal.
Abrielle Racine (Mooers Forks, N.Y.) had nine points with six boards and three blocks in the game and
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) added seven points with three steals in the contest.
Kaylee Beyor had a double-double for the Nor'easters with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Jordyn Franzen had 11 points with four grabs off the glass. Sydney Jenisch had 12 points and five rebounds on the day.
In the opening quarter, UNE opened up a 5-0 lead before
Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) had put the Hawks first basket into the net. The Nor'easters then jumped out to a 12-2 lead, before expanding the lead out to 14, before a three by Coppola cut the lead to 23-12.
UNE expanded their lead outscoring the Hawks 19-8 in the second, before the two teams played each other evenly in the second half.
Roger Williams (18-4, 12-4 CCC) closes their season in their fourth straight CCC semifinal appearance, and finishing just short of their third straight CCC Championship Game.
