BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams men's basketball team defeated Gordon College, 81-74, to sweep their season series. The game was played at Gordon's Bennett Center
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) and Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) led the Hawks in scoring with 19 points each. Miller also added nine rebounds and three assists to his stat line. John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.) had an impressive day on offense, shooting 7-8 from the field to total 16 points.
Roger Williams found immediate success on the offensive end to start the game. After being tied at 7 through the first three minutes, the Hawks went 7-0 run build an early lead. Despite some back and forth between the teams, Roger Williams grew their lead to nine with 12:00 left in the first half. However, a 12-2 run by the Fighting Scots gave Gordon the lead. The Hawks responded right back, going on a 10-4 run to take back the lead. Roger Williams held onto their lead and went into halftime up seven points.
Coming out of the break, Roger Williams immediately had their lead cut down. A quick 5-0 run to open the half by Gordon left the Hawks up 43-41. With eleven minutes left in the game Harrison Latimer (Topsfield, Mass.) scored five straight points, allowing the Hawks to go up by nine. For the next ten minutes, the Hawks' lead never dipped below four points. In the final minute, Gordon hit a three pointer to cut the lead to three. With 17 seconds left in the game, the Fighting Scots had an opportunity to tie the game on a three pointer, but it missed and Roger Williams was able to come away with the win.
Roger Williams (11-10, 8-4 CCC) will host Endicott on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 pm in the Campus Rec Center before finishing the week on Saturday by traveling to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England at 3:00 pm.
