KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team rebounded for a 9-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday at Oak Street Park.
In doubles action, the Hawks picked up a 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot with
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) pairing for the win. The No. 2 doubles pairing of
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) then finished their match with an 8-2 win, ahead of
Ashlyn Keating (Ludlow, Mass.) and
Emma Blanchard (Dayville, Conn.) by an identical score.
With the Hawks leading 3-0, McCarthy opened up singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Diana Rebelo. The Hawks then clinched the match when Cahoon finished with a 6-1, 6-0 No. 1 singles match to clinch the record with her 59
th career singles victory, ranking second all time..
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) earning a No. 2 singles win, 6-0, 6-0, and Santoro took No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1. The Hawks closed out the sweep with victories by
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Roger Williams will close out their Spring Break trip to Florida on Wednesday, Mar. 13 when they play Macalester at 10:00 am at the Lakeland Beerman Complex.
