LAKELAND, Fla. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team was defeated by Macalester, 7-2, on Wednesday morning at the Beerman Tennis Complex, rounding out their Spring Break Trip.
The Hawks dropped a pair of matches in doubles play, at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, before
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) took their match at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, over Amanye Reynolds and Megan Twomey.
Trailing 2-0 entering singles play, the Hawks dropped the No. 5 singles match and No. 2 singles match before Mancini picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles play to cut the Scots lead to one.
Macalester rebounded with strong showing by Sydney Ellison and Elizabeth Terevethan at No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively to solidify the match, before closing out the contest with a three-set win by Meg Ulrich over
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 6-1, 1-6, 10-5.
Roger Williams moves to 13-6 on the season with a 4-2 record in conference play. The Hawks are scheduled to play in one more match this spring against Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, Apr. 7 at 12:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts.
