AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University baseball team saw
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) hit a home run, and the Hawks remained unbeaten, downing Springfield College, 14-0, collecting 13 hits in the process at Lake Myrtle Park in seven innings.
Hibbard went 3-for-5 with seven RBIs in the contest, with a home run and a double.
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a double, while
Dennis Folan (Medfield, Mass.) had two hits including a double on the day with an RBI.
Nick Gleason (Northboro, Mass.) went 4.0 innings with a pair of walks and four strikeouts, throwing 67 pitches, earning the win.
With both teams scoreless through the first three innings of play, the Hawks opened up the game with runners on first and second, Hibbard hit a ball over the left field wall to take a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks then shut down the Pride, before scoring another pair of runs in the fifth. With
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) standing on second base, and
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) on third, a wild pitch brought in Hawley and put Flynn at third.
London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) then hit an RBI single to take a 5-0 lead.
The Hawks then rattled off six runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead before closing out the seventh inning with three runs to close out the contest.
"We have been playing some good baseball to start the season," said Head Coach
Kevin Kelley. "Each game we are getting better and more comfortable. It was pretty evident today that we are settling in as we played great in all three phases. Hitting, pitching, and defensively. I am genuinely excited about the journey ahead with this team. It's going to be a wild ride!"
Roger Williams (6-0, 0-0 CCC) will be off until Friday, Mar. 15 at 2:30 pm against Mount St. Joseph for a double header. The Hawks will then face Worcester State on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 10:30 am for their final game in Florida.
